Full course description
This course meets weekly on Zoom | Mondays 2/3 to 3/24 | 6pm - 9pm
The primary question to be answered throughout the class is, “What is the relationship between YHWH/God and humankind?” The question will be visited throughout the 8 weeks, and participants will be able to provide their personal answer by the end of the course.
- Participants will engage in a survey of the TaNaKh and be able to distinguish between books of The Law, The Prophets, and The Writings.
- Participants will be introduced to different theologies found in the Hebrew Scriptures and understand the historical timeline of when/why theologies were developed. They will learn to recognize key terms/phrases that identify the different theologies.
- Participants will learn to recognize significant clues in writing formats (i.e., narrative compared to poetry) and how those formats point to the purpose of a text.
- Participants will learn skills used for basic exegetical exploration of texts. Dialogue with a Text will be the primary skill developed, and will be used in completing assignments. Initial assignments will be included and posted in the weekly Canvas questions. The final paper will incorporate skills learned through the course.
